Ingredients:

  • ½ cup salted butter

  • 3-4 tbsp (15 g) unsweetened cocoa powder

  • ⅓ cup of milk

  • 3 cups (330 g) sifted powdered sugar

  • 1-2 tsp Whit Marie’s bourbon vanilla extract (or original vanilla extract)

  • ⅛ tsp salt

Directions:

  1. Sift the powdered sugar and sift the cocoa powder into separate bowls

  2. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over low heat.

  3. Add the sifted cocoa powder and mix until it comes to a light simmer.

  4. Remove from heat and slowly whisk in the milk, vanilla and salt.

  5. Add the powdered sugar ⅓ of a cup at a time, whisking until smooth after each addition.

  6. Pour the icing over your favorite cooled brownie or cake.

Notes:

  • You can halve this recipe, it currently covers half a sheet pan of cake or brownies.

  • I love to add walnuts or pecans for texture at the end of the last addition of powdered sugar.
